"Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!" I can't remember the first time I heard those words. Thing is, I can't remember not hearing those words.
As far back as I can recall, race cars have been a part of my life. I have a very special black and white photo in my studio from Daytona Beach taken in 1956. It's my father and me in front of the entrance to the old Museum of Speed. Most agree that our earliest memories begin at around three years of age. I was born in 1953. Stock cars were still racing on Daytona's beach in 1956 (three years before the first Daytona 500 and the Daytona International Speedway) and Sputnik had yet to circle the earth.
But you know, the more things change, the more they remain the same. The need for speed today is the same as yesterday. The arenas may have changed, the names may have changed, but the desire is the same - Get To The Finish Line First!
My artworks are a tribute to the people and the machines that have created one of the greatest success stories in the history of sport - NASCAR racing.
